Today we announced the first budget of this government in highly trying times for us all. The participation of the @greenparty_ie in government can be seen in what was delivered today, a budget that put the vulnerable first and one that prepares for a green recovery #Budget2021

Today's budget include the following measures.

Social Protection:

- PUP extended to April 1st
- Pension age to stay at 66
- Increasing carers support grant by €150 euros
- Extending parents benefit by further three weeks
- Christmas Bonus to be paid to people on PUP

Housing:
- €5.2bn for Dept of Housing a €773m increase.
- 12,750 new homes to be added to social housing stock
- €110m for Affordable Housing and cost rental schemes.
- €78m for an additional 15,000 households under HAP
- 30% Increase in funding for homelessness services

Myth 1: ‘HS2 only saves 20 minutes to #Birmingham’. FACT: #HS2 services will call at 25 stations in England and Scotland connecting 30 million people. It also frees up space on the existing network for more frequent stopping local services benefiting those who may never use HS2.

HS2’s budget is spread over 30 years and evens out at less than the annual roads budget. We will support 30,000 jobs at least 2,000 of which will be apprenticeships. The arrival of #HS2 is spearheading economic growth and is expected to create nearly 500,000 jobs around stations.

I see this in my classroom (environmental studies). The discussions over the past two years have changed incredibly in comparison with the rest of my 10 or so years of teaching (not to mention all the time that have been a student ... I've been in the clasroom a long time!)

Until two years ago, I've never been in a class where the room as a whole effectively says "what does it matter, if the world's all going to sh*t anway?" The students in my classes are overwhelmingly anxious about their future in a way I have not seen before.
