🔥 Dev Tip: I've seen this asked quite a bit on forums etc.

"What programming language should I learn next?"

Nodejs, JavaScript, PHP, MySQL, C#, Python, etc.?

What's my answer?

These are just tools. It's like:
- A guitar to the guitarist
- A pen to the writer
- A hammer to the carpenter
- A car for the racecar driver
A guitarist can know their music theory and "play" well on their own - but that doesn't mean he/she will play well with a group of musicians.

It also doesn't mean they can create beautiful music.
A writer may have the most expensive paper and pen - and know everything about pens and paper. Does that make him a good writer?

Nope.
Does knowing how to drive fast in the most expensive racecar mean someone will win races?

Nope.
Can you be the world's expert with NodeJs, understand software design principles, code refactorings, continuous integration, and all that....

But still, build the WRONG thing that your client's or business was really asking for?

Yep.
These are just tools to help you take an understanding of some business problem and build a solution to that problem.

I didn't say these tools help you to design a solution. But build a solution.

The solution must be designed before building.

What can help with this?
- Communication skills help you understand what different people from different fields are "talking about".

- Ability to translate and simplify what one group of people are thinking/saying to the collective group as a whole.
- Understanding the industry your business is addressing.

- Understanding what actual problems real people are experiencing by speaking with them and discovering the real underlying root issues.
- Simply understanding that at the end-of-the-day your business needs to make money. Sometimes the "quick and dirty" solution is best for the moment. It all depends 😉

- Understanding how to decompose a large problem into smaller scoped problems (see Domain Driven Design)
