-A interview of a antisemitisem scientist-

"In polls, many #Germans are annoyed by the thematization of the #Holocaust: One third is annoyed that the crimes committed against the #Jews are still held up today. And 41 percent think that #Jews talk about it too often ..."
The feeling of being held up is apparently present in many, they feel attacked. It is quite paradoxical: Although in surveys almost 90 percent say that belonging to #Germany is the knowledge of the history of National Socialism. Nevertheless, especially the #youth find today:
My #grandfather was already no longer involved, at some point is also good times. Interestingly, this is not just a #German phenomenon, but in the whole of #Europe, such as in #Poland and #Hungary, but also in #Spain or the #UnitedKingdom.
There is a clear connection to #nationalism: the more someone identifies with #German history, the more likely the memory of their dark side will be rejected. But of course, not everyone who expresses this is #nationalistic or even #antisemitic.
Interestingly, when asked whether to draw a line, younger people are more likely to vote, even though they are less #antisemitic. For them it's just farther away, and they learned a lot about it at school. They say:We had it all, I know it. Does this still have to be addressed?
-and,must this be?-

Of course it is important to remember. Empirically, however, it probably would not have a positive effect on further enhancing the culture of remembrance. The more we move away from the #Nazi period, the more intense the work-up has become,
so there is no shortage of knowledge. It should also not be forgotten that many today are proud of how the #Germans have coped with their past. It is very difficult to remember the painful part of one's own #history, and other countries often find it extremely difficult -
such as #Russia with #Stalinism. Many people think: We have learned from the mistakes! Are the others still not satisfied?
-#Jews then often say that they are not #concerned with #reproaching the next #generations ...-
Yes, from the #Jewish side that is #emphasized again and again. But obviously, #intent and #perception diverge here.
-What do you think about how the handling of the #Holocaust will develop in the #future?-
In #private, it is likely that less and less are spoken about it, simply by the time interval. But in public space, I think,
it will be different because the topic is very much institutionalized and there is broad #political #consensus about its #importance, even though it is #currently being #attacked by the #farright. There are so many foundations,
#clubs and #memorials and so many unaddressed questions that I believe his presence will not decline.
