If you find masks uncomfortable, I can suggest some to try.

1/7 Two years after the first national lockdown, it’s fantastic that we can live a more normal life safely, largely thanks to the #COVIDvaccine. But many Londoners remain defenceless to the harm of #COVID19 by being unvaccinated or incompletely vaccinated.…

I'm happy to say that this will be my last #Omicron update.

I read the ER and inpatient films from 11pm last night until 3:30pm today.

Of the 29 ER chest X-rays, only 1 had findings consistent with a COVID-19 pneumonia.

The #ConvoyForFreedom2022 decided to block Marine Atlantic's entrance with their convoy. Keep in mind this does not consist of any semi's. All I could see was the same #antivaxxers who have been covid denier's for the last year in local social media groups. /1

I decided I would drive over to see who was involved and why? @nsgov clearly released an injunction against any blockades or 'slow roll convoys'. Why would these guys just blatantly ignore that? So I put my 'trigger' mask on and headed down after a 20 min drive. /2

Some "Freedom Fighters" decided to walk up in support at the bridge. When I asked what they are supporting I was told "freedom for our children". I replied with "your children look pretty free to me". The person quickly turned and walked away. /3

In 2017 I had open heart surgery to remove my pericardium that was constricting my heart. The day after surgery my left lung collapsed. I was wide awake as the doctor cut my chest and inserted a tube to help me breathe.
Two days after that I went into respiratory failure with hypoxia and had systemic inflammatory response syndrome. They called my mom to the hospital in the middle of the night because they didn’t know if I’d make it.
I was in so much pain, I couldn’t breathe, and I was hallucinating. I truly thought I was going to die that night. I fought like hell to be here and still have to fight to be here every single day.

It's been 2 weeks since my last evening and overnight call and WOW, what a difference that short time makes in this fast moving Omicron wave.

Here are my observations.

@HRHospital #Omicron #COVID19
First, let's talk numbers.

Far fewer patients were coming in with COVID related complaints and only 23 patients in my 8hrs sample got chest X-rays.

That's down from 40 patients/8hrs 2 weeks ago, and 50 patients/8hrs the week prior.

The crowd is thinning out.

Of those patients that did get chest X-rays, 20 showed no evidence of a COVID pneumonia, and only 3 showed mild pneumonias which were not even definitively COVID pneumonias.

There were no moderate or severe pneumonias.

🧵 I’m not sure what I’m about to say has been made clear to ppl w/o a science or #MedTwitter background. It may be a genuine source of confusion (ie good faith questions), so here goes. Many are saying “If #Omicron makes a given person less sick (which appears to be true)…” /1
“Shouldn’t we just go ahead & get it over with? You know, masks off & almost everyone gets infected & then we’ll be done with it?” I get why someone might think or ask that. It makes sense. But it’s not the right thing to do, & here’s why. /2
There are the things you have prob heard before: even a tiny % of infected ppl dying is a lot of dead if most of the 🇺🇸 (or the 🌍 ) gets #Omicron. And there are overwhelmed hospitals, which cause deaths for other reasons. But this 🧵 isn’t about any of that. /3

Excelentes noticias 🥳

Know how to stop the vaccine mandates?

Get vaccinated.

They don't have to force anyone to get vaccinated if everyone who is eligible will do it themselves like responsible members of a society.

P.S. There is no increased risk of death among COVID-19 vaccine recipients.
Otherwise, the government has to intervene to protect the vulnerable from having a deadly and debilitating virus forced upon them like this person:

Don't come at me with VAERS data when VAERS clearly states on their website that their data is unverified and unreliable.

Vaccines remain effective against every outcome, including receiving the diagnosis of COVID. Based off of the past month in BC.

For overwhelming our hospital system (Each case requires special procedures and staffing, draining our resource), massive protection.

We will see the case protection numbers increase again, as unvaccinated people continue to get infected at a high rate with this Omicron spread, whereas vaccinated people peaked and are now well below the unvax rate once again.

There are 710,138 unvaccinated eligible British Columbians. A portion of these people can not be vaccinated due to medical issues, but the majority can be. Please do your part and #getvaccinated.

After my recent long thread on Long Covid, one of the most common questions I received was "What can I do to protect myself and my family?"

Here are my answers - this is more personal, with less linked support.
The first thing is to understand that COVID is AIRBORNE.

That means, viral particles linger in the air, like motes of dust do, circulating but not necessarily landing.

So, what can we do?
LPT: Don't breathe them.

Obviously, no measures are 100% to prevent infection, but you can do a lot to reduce your odds of infection per exposure.

Importantly, every step each individual takes is an improvement for everybody in the family's odds.

2) What is already known about this topic?
Vaccine effectiveness against multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C), which can occur 2–6 weeks after SARS-CoV-2 infection, has remained uncharacterized.
3) What is added by this report?
Estimated effectiveness of 2 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine against MIS-C was 91% (95% CI = 78%–97%). Among critically ill MIS-C case-patients requiring life support, all were unvaccinated.

The science clearly shows that vaccination is very safe and reduces infection, transmission, hospitalisation, severe illnesses, and saves lives.

You hear a lot of crap about “Natural infection”… this isn’t superior to vaccination, partly because the virus is good at suppressing elements of the immune response and partly because immunity wanes…

🧵If you follow me on other social channels, this isn't news, but I wanted to discuss here as well.

On 12/31, I tested positive for COVID.

I thought I would share some thoughts with you in a thread that only suits itself to Twitter...using @SchittsCreek gifs only.
On 12/29 I woke up with a VERY mild scratchy throat. Nothing that a sip of water wouldn't take away.

I had no known exposures, but I HAD been at a moderate sized family gathering on Christmas so I tested that evening with a rapid antigen nasal swab test.

It was negative.
The following day my daughter and I picked up our new puppy (wearing masks whenever not in the car) and drove 8 hours home.

That day my throat was still scratchy and I coughed MAYBE 5 times.

We had a COVID scare. Hubs was in his office and a co-worker (vaxxed/boosted) brought him some paperwork and left (less than 5 seconds). She tested positive from COVID after spending Xmas with family in Southern CA.
Hubs company is doing contact tracing and making all employees identify individuals they may have been in contact with before testing positive. Hubs was notified today that he had contact with her on 6 days ago in his office. She tested positive over the weekend.
He got the text to say it happened today. We have COVID tests, so he took one around 5PM *7 days after contact. NEGATIVE!!!!!
Turns out the woman he works with has a hubs who isn’t vaxxed and a kid. So, that must be going well.
