11 Ways Trump’s Condition Undermines Our Republic By Vince Greenwood, Ph.D. -- a thread:

#DutyToInform #DutyToWarn #UnfitToBePresident
1. Because of his greater than normal need for stimulation and impulsivity, disruptions to our government’s legal, financial, and administrative functions will accumulate.
2. In the exercise of his duties — at every choice point — power and dominance will prevail over others’ welfare. #DutyToInform

In developed #countries, #government policies to restrict private behavior in response to #COVID-19 have had no effect in reducing #deaths at all. Excess all-cause mortality is actually associated, though insignificantly, with increasing restrictiveness.
In developed #countries, #deaths caused by #COVID-19 have had no — zero – correlation with #government policies of increasing restrictiveness such as #lockdowns.
Given the statistical #evidence, it is reasonable to infer, in the absence of contrary statistical evidence, that increasing restrictiveness does not decrease mortality. Any assumption or assertion that it does is not following the #science – and #ScienceMatters.

Really interesting paper from my home state: incidence of respiratory viruses (including RSV & old-school coronaviruses) peaks FIRST in little kids, THEN in older kids, THEN in adults.

This finding, of course, has implications for #COVID19. Stay tuned. ja.ma/366vah1
(Limitation: "The cases analyzed in our study were all medically attended illnesses, which do not reflect asymptomatic cases or all mild cases.... Moreover, ...health care practitioners may have been more likely to test for respiratory virus in children compared with adults.")

Like many, I’ve had some extra fee time these days... After rebinging @theofficenbc and #theofficereunion I was inspired.

A thread of Trump’s handling of the #coronavirus (#COVID19) pandemic, as told by Michael Scott. #TheOffice
Way back in 2018, Trump decided it was a good idea to disassemble the #Pandemic Response Team – created by the Obama administration in case there was “an airborne disease that is deadly.” This can’t go wrong! #thiswaspreventable
Trump does nothing to replace this. He plays golf and insults people on Twitter – just the normal things that presidents do right?

The strongest scientific evidence comes from systematic reviews, which look at cumulative results from many studies, followed by randomized controlled trials, then observational studies, laboratory experiments, and then case studies.

#Covid_19 1/n: I hear the ppl with heated emotions, even if some of these tweets are no longer available. Let me clarify things. Once. Firstly, I am not from 🇨🇳. I came from a country that the WHO holds up as a gold standard for containing #COIVD19. Singapore. Why gold-standard?
#Covid_19 2/n:Because S’pore gov’t base their policies on science. One (!) case... and the entire gov’t went into action. It was the very first country to ban travelers & even TRANSITs from China in Jan. @SingaporeAir also proactively said it won’t fly to major internat’l hubs...
#Covid_19 3/n: when only a couple dozen cases have been detected. 1 dozen=12. This is responsible world citizenship.

Did China try suppressing info on the outbreak in the early days? Absolutely. This is a matter of public record. Should trade in wild-life be banned. Absolutely.

@azeem @Peston @tomstandage And there are many more questions to ask!
@azeem @Peston @tomstandage You can't lament citizens electing presidents or PMs who do not believe in science & when you have the opportunity to explain the science and modelling which would go behind considering #herdimmunity as a "strategy" you don't disclose your assumptions & model #sciencematters 1/n
@azeem @Peston @tomstandage There is already a pre-print on @medrxivpreprint looking at "getting to zero" with #COVID19 via @RanuDhillon et al. You can see that Days to get there depend on percentage of herd immunisation, R0 and testing/isolation. What assumption is the @CMO_England making here 2/n

We live in a microbial world.

There are germs that live on us, in us and with us.

Some make us sick, others don't, and some even help keep us healthy.

#PlayWithYourMicrobes #CUSuperbugs

@CdfScienceFest @FoRhiwbinaLib
Antibiotics.

Sometimes they work and kill the germs that make us sick.

But sometimes they fail because more and more germs are becoming resistant.

Antimicrobial resistance affects everyone and is one of the biggest global health challenges.

Microbes.

In our ears.
In our noses.

1. @ExtinctionR Having looked at some of your policies & grievances my advice to you as a scientist is to do your own research before you jump to conclusions; resist the temptation to go down a EnergyDeadEnd path before really appreciating after years of research life's realities
2. @ExtinctionR scenario has come about through a few scientists exaggerating #ClimateChange which is a natural phenomena that has occurred since Earth had an atmosphere; one of the variables keeping us warm is yes photosynthesising #TraceGas #CO2 as well as water vapour (clouds)
3. @ExtinctionR Earth's CO2 levels vary over time & currently only 0.041% or to make it sound larger 410ppm on average; at levels below 200ppm to 150ppm #photosynthesis ceases & all life relying on plants will die off.
Many other variables are involved with #ClimateChange e.g.Sun

(1) I'm reluctant to start another thread today but this is important. NBC has openly tried to underestimate the severity of hurricane #Florence, which is something meteorologists, officials and hurricane watchers object to, whoever does it.
(2) Now, it could be just one NBC reporter with a bad case of #TDS writing a tweet without knowing that entire careers have been built on campaigning for SAFER and more accurate weather reporting by media.

But if that were the case, NBC would have retracted it by now.
(3) I want to thank the meteorologists who called out NBC for their reckless tweet about #Florence. Most science professionals don't like Trump but they're not about to try to get people killed for political gain.

They have a soul.

(1) Today I'm celebrating the best Easter in my 48 years on this earth.

And I'm not even a Christian. But I'll tell you why I'm so grateful for the life and death of Jesus Christ, and those who follow him today, especially those in the USA.
(2) Some years ago I came across the online atheist community, and became very interested in their views and practices. During that time I opened this Twitter account, as a way to connect to that community. I keep the account bc changing the username is too much of a hassle now.
(3) I don't support the practice of assuming a person's beliefs and labeling them according to their Twitter username. I'm an agnostic, not an atheist. I don't believe in God, but I never rule anything out. Atheist SJWs are some of the biggest bullies online.

(1) I #resisted following the March for Our post-birth Lives but some of the photos are too good not to share. In this one, a proud American NRA member who happens to be black peacefully protests the idiocy. Arguably, he has more at stake than most of the kids marching.
(2) If given the chance, I can make a very strong case for African Americans and "people of color" benefiting from this administration more than other groups. But the Left isn't interested in hearing it and resorts immediately to the expired race card.
(3) As @Dloesch is constantly telling us, black males are one of the groups, if not the group, most affected by gun homicides, especially in certain large cities, that have coincidentally been held by Democrats for many decades, and are supposed gun free zones (aka killing zones)

(2) Liberals love to portray the President and his team as somehow incompetent rubes (hello? 45 year career, >300 companies, >60k employees, turned a small fortune into a massive fortune). This example is an excellent one showing WHY Trumps are so successful.
