Meditations On Yemen

"All this death and suffering is entirely man-made, and it is entirely the fault of the US-centralized power alliance." #Yemen #YemenCantWait…
We don’t like to talk about Yemen. We don’t like to think about Yemen.

Yemen is the elephant in the room.

Yemen is the black eye on a child that everyone at church pretends to believe is from falling down the stairs again to avoid an uncomfortable confrontation.
Yemen is the incestuous molestation everyone knows has been happening but they just keep eating their Thanksgiving dinner and making small talk.

The mass atrocity that is happening in Yemen is the worst thing that is happening in our world, and it isn’t even close.

Imagine spending 30 Days or 2 months in one room\area called #coldstorgeroom after forcing you to resign and write an apology to your employer (boss). Sending HR everyday to check if you are there from 8:30am to 6pm .. very #intimidating and humiliating. Well I did my Days “1/1”-
On that period, U are not allowed to attend classes, talk to other staffs, discuss with students, leave the room, basically a small prison, it took me back to they way they deal with prisoners in #yemen but we got AC and internet only a bonus, and that was depressing time, “2/1”
I used to ask myself how depression feels, and since the end of that month till today . 11 months almost I am feeling it everyday, and what is more frustrating is ( I had to resign for no reason) just some one present wrong names, and the Mangment took action to bless the Boss

Working on a project the last couple of months about the history of #Al_Qaeda and where it is now. A big takeaway: there has probably never been a moment when the group is so manipulated, influenced, and even controlled in places by state powers.
The role of state intelligence services in manipulating and using terrorist groups for their own ends remains nearly absent in Terrorism Studies; most people even think it's all "conspiracy theory" talk. But it's such a massive operational factor that this is weird.
.@ReuelMGerecht once wrote that the 'nonstate' actor ... designation [of Al-Qaeda] was always more myth than fact". If he overstated, it wasn't by much.…

Madinat al-‘Ilm seems to have been an early #ShiiHadith encyclopaedia compiled by Ibn Babawayh al-Shaykh al-Saduq (d. 991) but which has not been extant since the later 16thC 1/
Recently a recovered text based on citations has been published… 2/
The early #Shii bibliographies all mention the text and that it was voluminous and larger than Man la yahduruhu l-Faqih - 10 to 4 in ratio 3/

Today @JustSecurity, a deep dive into the warped humanitarian justifications for USAID’s suspension of aid in the world’s largest humanitarian crisis (#Yemen) amidst a terrifying pandemic 1/…
Aid is critical in Yemen. The band-aid metaphor doesn’t do it justice. Aid is more like a blood transfusion – necessary to keep the patient alive even if not substantial enough to heal (only a political settlement and economic revival can do that) 2/
Towards the end of last year, a lot of aid programs slowed or were paused – not for lack of funding, but due to interference by authorities in Yemen. It got bad in the South and even worse in the North 3/

Yemeni blacksmiths use the shrapnel from USA made missiles that have been raining down on the people of Yemen and beat them into Jambiyya 's, the traditional ornamental daggers of Yemen.

Janbiya, also spelled jambia, jambya, jambiya, and janbia.

"Missiles fired by the Saudi-led coalition jets rain down on militiamen and civilians alike, killing and maiming thousands."

Yemeni craftsman use the raw material that comes screaming from the skies over Yemen to craft beautiful works of art, as seen in the photo below.

The Jambiyya is made of steel, the shape of the hilt often refers to the city, region or tribe of the person carrying it. The price of the Jambiyya depends on whether the hilt is made of wood, buffalo horn or rhinoceros horn and the skill of the craftsman.

Alarmed by reports of #Houthis arresting & assaulting #Jewish residents, forcing them to sell their homes, expropriating their properties and transferring ownership to Houthi leaders. Shocking if #YemeniteJews are unjustly being pressured to leave #Yemen. 1/5
We know #Houthis espouse virulent #antiSemitism & impose systematic #discrimination, #humanrights violations, and mistreatment. Media now reporting Houthis cutting off #water & #electricity to Jewish homes and preventing #Jews from purchasing #food. 2/5
It is repugnant enough that the #Houthis have exacted vicious crimes against their fellow Yemeni #Muslim citizens. To hear that #Houthis also victimizing #YemeniteJews is similarly reprehensible. 3/5
