If the victim is from the #Dalit/ #Adivasi community, the Savarna media & intellectuals divert the whole discussion to either Hindu-Muslim or to victim blaming.

They just ignore the caste angle.
I would say ignoring #caste in such cases is a serious form of #Casteism. Image
These incidents are inhumane & barbaric yet the discussion is revolving around Hindu- Muslim or around the Parent - child relationship. No one is interested in discussing about the problems of safety and security of women.
Noone is discussing about this increasing violence against oppressed caste community. Dalit/Adivasi women are at the bottom in our community. Even within the women's movement, #Dalit and #Adivasi issues have not been taken seriously.

Two days before the Prime Minister's announcement imposing the sudden nationwide Covid-19 lockdown in March 2020, Bilal Chero* stepped out of prison for the first time in eleven years. He had been arrested in 2009 on what is commonly called in Jharkhand as 'Maobadi charges'.
Before his arrest he was just another villager subsisting by farming on his patch of land in a forested region in West Singhbhum, an area where the "party waale" [CPI (Maoist)] would come and go. "They were armed. If we didn't give them food and water, they'd kill us, you know?"
Suddenly he was informed that there was a "Naxali" case against him, and he was arrested on 22 charges including the #UAPA and Section 17 of the Criminal Law Amendment Act (association w a banned party). Meanwhile his wife & brother were killed in a security sweep of the region.

ICYMI: Over 40 #tribal families, comprising 200 members belonging to the marginalized Bhil and Barela Adivasi community in #MadhyaPradesh 's Jamniya area, Khandwa district, have been rendered homeless.

The families have been living there since 1963, reported NewsClick.(1/n)
Those who lost their homes also alleged that the forest department, in a bid to cut them off completely from their lands, “sprayed poison” on their fields and demolished crops with bulldozers. Around 6 tribals were detained after some of them attacked the police officials.
Around 300 persons gathered outside the police station on 10 July in Khandwa to demand the release of the activists detained from the Jagrit Adivasi Dalit Sangathan (JADS) as well as members of their community. Soon after which the members were freed.

I request this committee members:
- Please QUESTION Devi Shetty’s credentials to lead this
- Please hold to account #Manel #AllMale membership
- Please include #RuralHealth #CommunityHealth #PublicHealth
- Expertise is NOT only CLINICAL; also social; include grounded voices
Unfortunately no time & bandwidth; but putting this out there
We need:
- campaign for a DIVERSE expert committee including #Citizen #CommunityEngagement #Dalit #Adivasi voices
- Devi Shetty’s position as Chair is NOT tenable; appoint a #PublicHealth expert in his place

What does #Caste hierarchy and historical priviledge look like in the Temple Building Industry? A thread:

SOMPURA Brahmins- main actors of the temple building industry, who work closely with religious organizations such as #BAPS. On one hand, they profit off the blood and sweat of #Dalit and #Adivasi workers who build these temples...
...On the other hand, they consider their touch impure. So, Sompuras touch, bless and do ‘finishing touches’ on the carved stones - made by #Dalit #Adivasi #workers - to make them ‘worthy’ of their temples

#publichealth approaches ought to be contextual & their effectiveness ought to be evaluated, yet strategies for disease control often spread through word of mouth and are sometimes untested;

#Adivasi Community attacked in UP and Dehradun.
A thread.
Adivasis, or India’s indigenous people, have been leading a peaceful struggle for their rights to ‘jal-jungle-jameen’ or forest land and its bounty for several generations.
@AdivasisMatter @HansrajMeena
The escalation of violence appears to be related to an increasing number of Adivasis asserting their rights guaranteed under the #ForestRightsAct 2006, by filing community land claims.
