Proud to announce the final paper of my dissertation is out @ASHAJournals 🎉

Here, we aimed to assess longitudinal performance in language and other cognitive domains important for academic success in young adults with acquired brain injury (ABI) participating in intensive rehab Image
22 young adults with ABI (#stroke, traumatic brain injury (#TBI), tumor, encephalitis) attended ≥ 12-week semester of the Intensive Cognitive and Communication Rehabilitation program. The program (lectures, individual therapy, tech. training), was held 6 hours/day, 4 days/week. Image
14 young adults with ABI served as deferred treatment/usual care control participants. All participants demonstrated language and/or other cognitive impairment on a standardized assessment battery (WAB, RBANS, SCCAN, DCT) administered before/after each semester.

This #InternationalWomensDay2022 let’s revisit the progressive judgments of the Indian Courts reaffirming the rights of the women and providing them better protection of the law.

#ICLU celebrates 21 judgments of the #SupremeCourt on this #WomensDay
1. The Apex Court providing for detailed guidelines for safety of women at workplace in Vishakha & Ors. v. State of Rajasthan & Ors. (1997) directed employers to provide a mechanism for redressal of grievances of employees. (1/2)
These guidelines were eventually formalised as legislation with the passing of the Sexual Harrasment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013. (2/2)

When I first started at the Glenrose, I had no idea it was the LARGEST rehab. hospital in North America

No idea it was BETTER KNOWN AROUND THE GLOBE than it is right here in #yeg

No idea about the incredible patient journeys

I know now. More Edmontonian's should know too...
I now know that applied innovations and health technology are driving exceptional outcomes at the Glenrose.

These outcomes help get your son, daughter, brother, sister, mom, dad, grandma, and grandma back to living their fullest lives possible...
I now know the Glenrose is an ideal incubator site, well-positioned to inform health technology transformation projects across the entire Alberta healthcare system.

But what does transformation even mean?

The word has become cliché, used mainly as a euphemism for "change."

A thread on the Assessment of Need: the statutory process by which children whose parents have concerns about potential disability can be assessed.

The process has recently been changed by the HSE in a manner that is frankly appalling.

Explanation: (1/n)
Parents might apply for AoN for a child due to concerns about development- in my clinic, the commonest reason is queried autism.

Previously, the AoN involved a team (usually physio, OT, SLT, psychology) assessing a child to get insight into the nature of their difficulties (2/n)
The team conducted a series of assessments, usually taking several hours each, and produced a report giving a detailed analysis of how a child is doing, what the causes of their difficulties might be, suggesting a diagnosis if appropriate, and giving advice on next steps (3/n)

THREAD: I hope this mistake can be used as an opportunity to learn why this kind of language is bad.

The Minister isn't the only person to say things like this- I've even heard parents of kids with autism refer to other children as "normal" & have had to rearrange my face. (1/n)
The hard thing for those of us working in/ living with disability is that this is a mistake we'd NEVER make.

For others (who don't live and breathe disability), saying "normal children" is probably a slip of the tongue- not a betrayal of them secretly being awful people. (2/n)
Given her portfolio this is a bad gaffe for the Minister which has upset people. Rather than piling on, it would be better to use this as a rare opportunity for other people to learn why language matters so deeply in disability and why this kind of thing is so wounding. (3/n)

Happy to share @pennmotionlab latest paper + 1st collab with @kgSilbernagel and @UDtendongroup. We calculated #achilles tendon #biomechanics over a range of #rehabilitation exercises to rank progressive loading...

journals.lww.com/acsm-msse/Full…
We calculates 3 aspects of loading biomechanics 1) peak load, 2) impulse, and 3) loading rate. We think peak load is most important in healing tendon so we gave that the strongest scaling factor, then impulse, then rate... Image
But you might think Achilles loading parameters should be weighted differently. So we made an app for that... a macro in excel actually. So you can calculate the loading rankings based on your own intuition...

Why the negative reporting @BBCNews about MoJ providing accommodation for people who are #homeless on release from prison? Would you prefer that they were released to live in the streets? Increase the spread of #COVID__19? Do people not deserve 1/3
basic human rights after they have served their sentence? What about supporting #rehabilitation and enabling people to contribute to society? How many people in prison are there because of what society has inflicted on them #ACE (adverse childhood experiences) abuse, neglect? 2/3
I celebrate the decision to make sure people have accommodation on release from #prison. It’s probably saved lives. No-one should through choice be released to the streets, ever. As a ‘developed’ society surely that’s what we all want? #homelessness #homelesshealth 3/3

Streatham #terrorist was arrested in glorifying, promoting and possessing #terrorism material but at the time of having these, he has no capability to commit an act of terrorism.
After releasing from prison, he had #Motivation and #Capability to do so.
He got both from #prison.
So in this case, the question arises, how and from where did he get capability and motivation to commit an act of terrorism in prison?
There are really serious issues in prison #rehabilitation programs. These programs need to be reformed & added right #methods by @ukhomeoffice.
It’s time for @MoJGovUK to reevaluate the prevent strategy in prisons. They need to recruit more efficient Islamic theologians and introduce new counter Islamist ideological methods in order to rehabilitate potential terrorists.
@ITCTofficial is ready to offer such services.

@CHeartsTrees @J_HarrisPT @BruceyMd @ProfJohnBuckley @lisacotie @DrAndrewPipe
The @HeartInstitute houses 1 of the largest #cardiac #rehabilitation programs in 🇨🇦. Even with our resources and infrastructure, we cannot accommodate cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) to measure VO2peak for each and every patient before their 1st cardiac rehab class.
Even if we had sufficient personnel, training, equipment and resources, are expensive CPETs for the purpose of determining VO2peak and subsequent exercise prescription necessary?
