Ahead of #wecops tonight, in order to raise #PoliceFamily #MentalHealthMatters: here is my PTSD adventure (in 6 parts). It is brutal, very honest and possibly going to get me in trouble! It was my life and I suspect similar to thousands of #cops. Thanks to @GorillaoJustice.

This is going to be another long thread cum rant on Depression and Suicide Please bear with me.
Depression is a disease. Not a choice, not a conscious decision and certainly not "deliberately pretending to be sad".
Depression may not have any overt signs, that can be made out physically. Only self reported symptoms, elicited in a clinical interview can establish this diagnosis of Depression. Even sadness is not a strictly universal symbol.

A Thread:
Suicide is a large and growing public health/Mental problem. A WHO report says: every year around 800000 people die by Suicide. That is One person every 40 Seconds.

What would be the reasons for such a huge no. of people to take this extreme step? Let's see:
•Substance Consumption.
#Depression and Mental illness.
•Temporary Loss.
These are the major reasons broadly classified.
As everything in life has its causes and effects. Suicide leads to some serious consequences. The connection of human chain and all the relations are effected by this extreme step.
Precisely, it effects the Social,Personal,Economic and other aspects of one's life.

1/Let's talk about suicide. Now I don't know all the whys and reasons why many would rather commit suicide, but I do know this; you can be surrounded by lots of people, have a contact list long as your arm, a followers/fans list of hundreds of thousands, but yet feel lonely. Why?
2/Because even though you're not alone, you are very lonely. Locked away with your thoughts and feelings because others can't be bothered to even spend a minute listening to you without accusing you of complaining. What if you do? Sometimes that's what it seems like, but not so
/3 Maybe it's the only way you can literally say how you feel. Or at times you just want to show others a different perspective, but they feel that you either don't understand or you are crazy for even having an opinion. So you shut up and shut down and stay in your lane.

1. There are many antidepressents rigourusly tested for clinical depression.
2. Mid-severe depression may not be resolved with counselling alone.
3. If you are on antidepressents, abruptly stopping them w/o consulting can lead to severe side effects like suicidal thoughts.
4. If an antidepressant isn't working out for you, please see a specialist to recommend you another one.
5. If you have suicidal thoughts, even though you think they will not be acted upon, do not ignore them. Please speak to someone close & or a professional.
Please be sensitive about the trend and do no post misinformation on depression & suicide. A tweet with misinfo got deleted here. Posting my response to that tweet. #depression

Read sad story last night about Dr. Bucci, 50 year old Phychology & Brain Sciences Dept. Chairman, at Dartmouth that committed #Suicide 11 months after a lawsuit was filed by graduate #students in his department. He
2/ was NOT accused of sexual misconduct, but named in the suit for knowing about the professors’ inappropriate behavior as the Chair.I share many of the same feelings he expressed to friends and colleagues in his emails before he took his own life like: the case was deeply
3/ personal; reputation had been damaged; physical health diminished; false portrayal of his actions; being blamed unfairly; allegations & process “unfair”; how can they ever undo what they did to me & #wronglyaccused. Similarly, how I had reported the #disability

#SuicideAwareness I very nearly didn’t make it to 2020. I don’t even know how I’m still here. I need to thank those who helped me up when I fell down. This is a thread about how grateful I am for being alive today.
From 2016 to 2019, I was stalked, sexually harassed, threatened and intimidated by a man from my society where my family and I were renting an apartment because it was close to my college. I was pursuing law.
In early 2018, after the man attempted to run me over with his car and later forcibly grabbed my hand and tried to touch me, my mother and I decided to take action. I was afraid but I knew we had to do something. Ignoring him had not worked.

Here goes our first thread. Singing goes a long way towards managing our own wellbeing. We breath together, we share words and emotions during in each song. Above all we laugh together. I recommend it. #seashanty #folksong #MentalHealthMatters
We have supported each other through some dark times. When we get together to sing, however we are feeling, the songs demand we take a break from our own heads and move into a shared space. A place where we are not alone.
If you are feeling lost or lonely please consider joining a choir, a shanty group or something that involves shared performances. I know that may be a scary prospect but trust me it could be a lifesaver. #ollysfuture #SuicideAwareness #MentalHealthMatters

1. I make no apologies for the length of this thread as 1000s have been living with the strain of #LoanCharge for years & it reflects what we've endured.I urge you to read this, especially if you are in the media. This thread contains links to facts evidencing HMRC & Gov behaviour.
2. Years, decades even, of inaction & inefficiencies by @HMRCgovuk now mean that 100k contractors face ruin with 20yrs of retrospective tax in the #LoanCharge. I found out about this over 10 years after first using a scheme.
3. Former chancellor @philiphammond sums up perfectly in a separate statement on tax of what 20yrs of inaction by @HMRCgovuk signalled to people. Also remember these schemes were never illegal. How his attitude changed to suit his own agenda in respect of #LoanCharge

I'm seeing a lot of trending about the news of Jeffrey #Epstein's death.

I am also a suicidologist.

I wanted to correct some simple misinformation.

Tw: Suicide, as I will be communicating directly about suicide.

Tw: child abuse, because of course, this involves a man accused of heinous crimes against children

Misinformation: supervision would have prevented his death

Suicide is not preventable via lockup or supervision. Human ingenuity beats supervision 100% of the time.

* A review of 76 inpatient suicides showed that 50% died on 1:1 or q15 checks.

About 20 years ago I had to knock my father down with a forearm to throat and pull a bottle of poison out of his mouth. Thank God he lived and is doing well now. But to this day my mother admits she is scared of me because when I had to tackle my father I did without hesitation.
Suicide devastates the people left behind. Suicide attempts leave scars that run bone deep, both physical and emotional. Please, I beg you, call someone. There is help. You have worth. You will be missed. Please. Please. Call. Please.

1/ I want to talk about my Mom's passing today. It was Feb 17th of 2014--exactly five years ago today--that she passed.

Escaping today and watching a ballgame was therapeutic for me. Because I last saw her on Valentine's Day, I get very solemn when "the day" comes around.
2/ I got her a bouquet for V-Day and dropped it off at the Nursing Home where she been for the five months before her death. She had spent months in Convalescent Homes twice before; once for a bad fall and once because she nearly chocked to death while eating.
3/ In the choking incident, she coded while in her room. She had been eating her dinner and began to choke; she aspirated a very large bite of chicken and was unconscious when the staff found her. The pulmonary specialist later told us that she was very fortunate to have...
