/ WARNING: POSSIBLE TRIGGER LANGUAGE, EVENTS or SITUATIONS
Read sad story last night about Dr. Bucci, 50 year old Phychology & Brain Sciences Dept. Chairman, at Dartmouth that committed #Suicide 11 months after a lawsuit was filed by graduate #students in his department. He
/ was NOT accused of sexual misconduct, but named in the suit for knowing about the professors’ inappropriate behavior as the Chair.I share many of the same feelings he expressed to friends and colleagues in his emails before he took his own life like: the case was deeply
/ personal; reputation had been damaged; physical health diminished; false portrayal of his actions; being blamed unfairly; allegations & process “unfair”; how can they ever undo what they did to me & #wronglyaccused. Similarly, how I had reported the #disability
/ #discrimination, #harassment, #hostileenvironment and eventually #retaliation to the #University; once he was informed of the #misconduct allegations he reported the accusation immediately to the #college administration. Both of us clearly feeling left out “hung-to-dry” by
/ University leadership having never followed up or taking action. His wife and friends said he grew deeply distressed as the full scope of the #accusations sank in. In an email to a friend he expressed, “I’m done. I honestly just don’t care what happens anymore.” He had a
/ sense of defeat when discussing the situation. Another email said, “I’ll be honest, things have been really rough,” he wrote to a friend and “The stress has overlapped and affected my wife and the home front as well.”Some colleagues and friends shunned him and the ordeal
/ eventually brought back his crippling #depression he had been treated for years earlier. Admittedly, it is emotionally difficult when people you interacted and spent time with daily considering your friends & colleagues never reach out or defend you. At least I have been
/ fortunate to have classmates defend me publicly and many check-in sharing they want to help or publicly support but too afraid of the law school administration #retaliation. I find myself daily asking if my opinion of certain faculty members who I felt had a good
/ relationship was not accurate. I question “How did the @DrakeLawSchool Tenured Faculty allow this to happen? They are ALL attorneys that understand the #law and know that it was wrong, impossible, complete violation of #dueprocess & #fundamentallyunfair to affirm a hearing
/ decision under a clearly erroneous standard when they were not given a #FindingofFact/ #SummaryofDecision from the #HonorBoard OR were told/aware they were NOT provided the Full & Entire Record for Review?” So why would they allow this to happen, when they could have stopped
/ it? These are the very people I was paying to educate me, but then when have the chance to do the right thing fail to step up? In a conversation the other day with a #LawSchool #Professor from another school he shared, “I should not be surprised at all.” He said that, “most
/ Law Professor’s ‘talk a big game’ & always have an opinion after the fact, but very few will ever go out on a limb & do what is right BEFORE a decision has been rendered, unless of course they are being paid.” Most frequently stating , “they did not have all the facts as
/ the reason not to get involved.” I found that disappointing, sad news to hear & honestly changed my opinion about many individuals had respected. The people close to Dr. Bucci had noticed the change in him. One colleague said “It was really hard to watch, to be honest, he
/ seemed to have lost the sparkle in his eye, all this ambition, his drive, and future goals. His wife had said, “he [Dr. Bucci] wouldn’t have gotten to that point had he not gone through that experience with this lawsuit.”So I truly understand his anguish and the point he was
/ at that eventually proved too much for him to bear as he despaired over the situation then took his life. Like Dr. Bucci my mental health issues (bipolar, depression, GAD & PD) had been stable with medication and therapy not having a major episode since 2013. Then this
/ morning my wife woke finding me having an uncontrollably crying and shaking with fear. Still taking all of my medications for anxiety, depression & bipolar it is proving to be too much so changes will be made.My physical health has also deteriorated rapidly as
/ well, losing close to 70 lbs. in the last ten weeks, gouty arthritis attacks with excruciating pain reoccurring every week from high stress leaving me unable to use my hands or walk, and then throwing up regularly from from my anxiety when trying to determine our future.
/ Thank goodness for #twitter being an outlet for me to tell my side of the story, defend myself, address and explain the misconduct allegations for family & friends (not having to explain 100’s of times) and expose the scorched-earth strategy used by @DrakeLawSchool before
/ the legal process. However, as my followers have grown from 80 to over 2.7K (Thank you, RT & ask ur followers to join - Can use any and all support) in the last three weeks the University attorneys have called my attorney numerous times in trying to silence me. Not unlike the
/ cease-n-desist or even a complaint for defamation in an attempt to shut me down. Everyone in Dr. Bucci case was grappling with how this had happened and how they could have stopped his suicide from happening. In my situation it is crystal clear that it will take students,
/ alumni and faculty members to demand change to the student disciplinary process so what I have experienced can never happen again to another student. Unfortunately, it is my understanding that Marty Martin or @DrakeUniversity leaders did not take the opportunity to talk
/ with or respond to @DrakeLawStudentsForJustice questions they presented last week. Not surprising in the least bit to me as this was the same treatment I received when filed my previous complaint, but clearly just another indication of his poor leadership ability in running
/ Drake University. Thanks for listening and appreciate everyone’s support & listening ear. Hopefully, something good will come out of this horrible nightmare. I can only hope Drake University will evaluate its policies & procedures regarding student discipline
/ investigations, hearings & appeals providing students with due process procedural safeguards and fundamental fairness so another innocent student is not falsely accused having to endure this living hell. I am not sure with Marty Martin at the helm that is going to happen.
/ He seems too busy deceiving the people of Des Moines allowing for their taxes to be raised so he can get the $15M from the Des Moines Public Schools to build a soccer stadium to actually deal with the health, welfare & fair treatment of student’s on campus. Additionally, if
/ @CarolHunter was fired because it was discovered she is unfit, biased and an irresponsible as the editor for the @DMRegister because she purposely does NOT cover stories that would reflect negatively and expose serious problems on Drake Campus that would be a bonus as
/ well. If you have taken the time to read this whole post thank you 🙏 Please take 1 extra minute to ask 3 others to follow so can get the FIGHT OF MY LIFE story out farther & help this 50 year old B-Day Boy reach the 3K follower goal by end of day! ✌️🙋‍♂️☝️#MentalHealth
