As #Quebec prepares to partially open today, I’m trying to keep an open mind. But I’m looking at these numbers and I can’t make sense of them. Quebec has roughly 23% of the CDN population, but almost 54% of all confirmed cases nationally, and close to 60% of all deaths.
Alberta, with significantly fewer #COVIDー19 cases than Quebec, isn’t planning on opening schools until September. Same for BC.
New Brunswick hasn’t had a COVID case for weeks and zero deaths, but hasn’t announced any plans to reopen schools/businesses.
In the meantime, the province doing - by far - the worst in the country numbers-wise, is preparing to slowly start opening businesses and sending kids off to school despite the overwhelming unease expressed by many parents and teachers.

#covid19: are the elderly dying in nursing homes for a host of reasons other than the virus?

If any one has a loved one in a #nursinghomes w/ a story to share, please reach out.…
My friend in #Montreal recently was told he couldn't see 'old man joe' his elderly friend.

He had a mask & gloves and finally they let him in.

How many elderly people are signing #DNR forms? Tell me!

In the words of #jerome, do it for your abuelita.
Meanwhile my aunt died. If cancer, not coronavirus. We can't go to the funeral. Body is being cremated.

Do we realize what is being done, stripping us of our ability to bury our dead like in Africa with Ebola?

Netflix binges.
Late-night Skype sessions with a bottle of wine.
Stress baking.
With gyms, playgrounds, + pools closed, #covid19 is set to cause another public health crisis: an epidemic of inactivity.
Fortunately, there's one outlet available.
In many, if not most, cities in North America (unlike some European cities, which can be much denser) public parks provide ample room for outdoor exercise, strolling, giving the kids fresh air.
Great North American urban parks were planned after epidemics of TB, cholera, and typhoid—often explicitly to provide city people with salubrious public space to escape crowded neighborhoods.

Need your help.
Went to my local bike store today, + they told me they're closing as of midnight tonight. The premier of #Quebec has declared them "non-essential" (while keeping auto shops + government-monopoly liquor + cannabis stores open).
In neighboring province of #Ontario, they remain open, as in NYC (in spite of fact that @BilldeBlasio is fantastically un-woke on sustainable transport).
At a time when many people don't want to take #transit for risk of getting sick, bikes are individualized transport to people who have to get to work safely, with safe physical distancing. (Especially true in #Montreal, which has lately built great separated bike lanes).

“posturing feminist firebrand.”

I especially relish garbage publication PJ media’s claim that my beating the fuck out of a man who sexually assaulted me in a #Montreal club was “apocryphal.” His face and my knuckles would disagree. #IBeatMyAssulter

h/t @rerutled
Remember that just 10 days ago, same garbage PJ Media wrote another piece about me in which they actually - tellingly - called feminism a “terrorist movement.”
“misandrist waffle”

I should put together an anthology called “Men Terrified of Mona.” This is from a couple of days ago from “Conservative Woman.”

Had a great #Canadian launch of #7necessarysins via @BeaconPressBks at one of my favourite bookshops @LibrairieDandQ in #Montreal and was thrilled that one of my favourite artists MissMe came. Another great one for the Faces and Fingers of #7necessarysins collage 📷 @rerutled

I hear it was the largest individual #climateCrisis protest in history. Any city wish to challenge that? Regardless, 500,000+ people in #Montreal today for #ClimateStrike makes a POWERFUL statement that we’ve reached a real turning point toward #ClimateAction! Via @GretaThunberg
This makes me happy of many levels — including that #Vancouver showed up 100K+ strong for the @ClimateStrike, AND that citizens did it by showing how streets, bridges & our FUTURE are about people, not cars. #ClimateCrisis
Hat tip to @SimiHeer, great video!

Intersections are where most of the conflicts happen between people on bikes and people driving cars. Naturally it makes sense then to put the bike markings in the intersections and in front of driveways to notify drivers to expect to see bikes. #Montreal
But of course bike stencils aren't nearly enough, you need a network protected bike lanes. Here is an example of planted medians separating bikes from cars which are far more beautiful and safer than flex posts.
I've been questioned by a fair amount of people over the years on how pedestrians are supposed to walk across a protected bike lane. Here's a good example - raise the bike lane to curb level, paint a x-walk

This year the BQW had the privilege to “adopt” Mme Emily Greif’s 👩🏻‍🏫 5th grade French ⚜️ class at @SWSatgoding @dcpublicschools, through the @EmbassyAdoption Program.

Ensuite un hommage, en français, au célèbre poète montréalais Léonard Cohen.

And then they paid tribute to #Montréal poet Leonard Cohen, with the French version of his famous song “Hallelujah”

Born & raised in #Fanar #Lebanon, a tiny country in the middle east with a lot to offer. I always had a positive outlook on life maybe because of the culture or values🤷‍♀️.

I grew up surrounded by a loving, joking & tough type of family that always support each other even amidst fighting. You can imaging being 4 kids in different age groups can cause a lot of fights growing up 😂 #siblingsfight #family #VoicesIWS
I have my issues🤷‍♀️! I always wanted to prove myself & make my family proud(2nd child). A pressure that was just in my head; they were always proud of us. I wanted to grow up to be a doctor or an army officer like my dad. Let's just say I changed my mind! #VoicesIWS @IWS_Network

Panelists of the #montreal #AI #ecoystem @froginthevalley @marktmaclean @MILAMontreal @rllabmcgill @NarjesBoufaden @PhilBeaudoin of @SymposiumAi, we need to talk. I’m bringing other AI researchers (from Montreal or not) into the discussion because I feel it’s very important. 1/15
It relates to more than just Montreal, but the general AI ecosystem: @atg_abhishek, @goodfellow_ian, @fchollet, @hardmaru, @element_ai, @Montreal_IA, @johnolafenwa, @MTLINTL, @math_rachel, @mtlaiethics, @AndrewYNg. 2/15
I didn't get the chance to make a comment yesterday as time was over. There was a lot of talk about how great the ecosystem is great except for some minor communications flaws, but what nobody even mentioned is how incredibly closed this ecosystem is to outsiders. 3/15
