There is an economic war being prosecuted against American workers through global wage arbitrage. The U.S. economy was hijacked & by globalists when Reagan ascended to power and broke the backs of organized labor. Successive administrations have proceeded apace.
It was executed by the BOTH corporate (they're corporations) political parties reaching peak treachery under Clinton. His administration unshackled monopoly finance through t/repeal of Glass-Steagall, ended limits on foreign & consolidated media (control the narrative) & telecom.
He did the mass immigration version of tariff reductions, stripping U.S industry ass-naked b4 putting it on the pole for de-industrialization & "global competition" (WTO); which was really the ownership class divesting of U.S. industrial preeminence for cheap Asian labor.

It is not difficult to understand why Paul Ricoeur (1913-2005) has been influential in Iran along with other major theorists in #phenomenology and #hermeneutics like #Gadamer - both visited #Iran in 2002 - a thread on #Ricoeur in #Iran 1/
Especially for those interested in religion and making sense of the word and the world, of text, action and hermeneutics, it is often the triumvirate of Jacques Derrida (1930-2004), Paul Ricoeur, Hans-Georg Gadamer (1900-2002) and Emanuel Levinas (1906-1995) who come to mind 2/ ImageImageImageImage
The revolution of 1979 brought up issues of authenticity, a desire to reconcile one's political and social being with one's faith; it brought political theology to the fore; no doubt both the #hermeneutics of suspicion and #reconstruction of #Ricoeur were attractive 3/

The Erie Observer, #EriePA’s anti-Lincoln, anti-abolition newspaper before & during the Civil War became Erie’s anti-Radical Reconstruction, anti-14th Am. paper after. These views weren’t fringe: the Observer had comparable circulation to the Gazette, Erie’s Republican weekly. Image
This is all they had to say concerning the death of Thaddeus Stevens, the Pennsylvania representative who helped lead Radical Reconstruction and secured support for President Johnson’s impeachment. Image
Thaddeus Stevens was a constant target of the Observer’s before his death. He was also no stranger to Erie, both representing PA.

When Erie Congressman James Thompson conspired with future Confederate leader Howell Cobb to pass the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850, Stevens was livid.

Today is Juneteenth, the oldest celebration of black emancipation in the country. Here is Maj. Gen. Gordon Granger's order, given two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation had taken effect.
#Juneteenth 🎇🎉🎊 Image
Of course, a proclamation of emancipation did not automatically lead to full freedom for black people. #Reconstruction quickly gave way to "Redemption" and Jim Crow.

"The slave went free; stood for a brief moment in the sun; then moved back again toward slavery." ~ F. Douglass Image
The Emancipation Proclamation only applied to certain states in the Confederacy and ultimately depended on Union victory. It would require the 13th Amendment, with it's infamous "exception clause", to fully abolish slavery in the U.S.

US House of Representatives passed Civil Rights Bill of 1875 on 2/4/1875. Speaking in support of the bill that day was Rep. James Garfield of Ohio: "The warnings uttered today are not new. During the last twelve years it has often been rung in our ears that by doing justice 1/8

where there were twenty thousand Union men from Kentucky and Missouri and we were told that those men would throw down their arms and abandon our cause if we dared to make the Negro a soldier. Nevertheless the men whose love of country was greater than their prejudice 3/8

Two reflections from my research on this recent wave of #WhiteSupremacist #terrorism.

1) We have no cultural framework for non-state violence with which to make sense of what's happening right now.
To be sure, there's a recent wave of important work critiquing state-sponsored violence & its relationship to white supremacy. But, these have yet to penetrate the public imagination.
All I've read on the recent attacks frame them as "racial," "gun violence," or at best, "political." These frameworks are totally inaccurate.

We are witnessing a campaign of white supremacist violence grounded in the president's own campaign rhetoric.

This was such a good conversation I didn't want to stop talking. Thanks @davidlparsons!

(P.S. wanna know why #ATL is the capital of #Georgia? It's not just bc of railroads! Take a listen...😉)
Hint: think race & #Reconstruction.
Also: learned something abt myself doing this interview bc it was over the phone & not on a computer.

I ❤️ed it bc I'm so ADD that my thoughts race way ahead of what I can say & I often get lost in them. But here I moved around constantly. Walking meditation.🧘
