The Manzarieh camp in N/Tehran was #Iran’s 1st major #terrorist camp in 1981. They brought in foreign trainers such as #Palestinians, #Syrians, N/ Koreans & even 300 Farsi speaking #KGB agents in Iranian uniforms to export the Islamic Revolution to create chaos in the Arab world. Image
Might that chaos include assassinating Lebanon’s Maronite leader Bachir Gemayel in 1982 ? A #Syrian was arrrested. #Syria has been allied to #Iran. Iran’s #Shia Revolution was definitely a big moment in Lebanon. The Soviets, #Iran and #Syria all had interests in #Lebanon.
Massive chaos followed the assassination of young #Gemayel who demanded the ouster of Syrian forces and the #PLO. He had rebuked an offer by the #KGB to assist the Maronites in return for #Soviet bases.

Give I'm a little bored - let's do a thread on UNIFIL etc.

The #UnitedNations Interim Force in #Lebanon, otherwise known as #UNIFIL #UN & #NATO peacekeeping operation which began in March 1978 - 42 years ago.
During the 1970s tension between #Israel and #Lebanon increased to an all-time high as after armed #Palestinian elements shifted from #Jordan to #Lebanon. Said forces conducted operations against #Israel and retreated to the safety of #Lebanese territory.
On 11 March 1978, this escalated with what is now called the Coastal Road massacre planned by Abu Jihad. Here's a bit about the Coastal Road Massacre.

1. @khamenei_ir's statement needs to be seen in the context of the "Battle for Dominance" of the Islamic World between Iran and Saudi Arabia

Riyadh's position as the leader of the Muslims has been under threat from Tehran right after the Islamic Revolution of 1979
2. The genesis of this war is a war of ideologies among the two sects of Islam ; 'Shia' and 'Sunni' with Sunnis being the dominant population in the Middle East , North Africa , Pakistan , Indonesia , India and Malaysia.
3. The Muslim populations of most of these countries look towards Saudi Arabia (Custodian of Mecca and Medina) or Iran for support and guidance on issues of religious conflict , regional conflict , social trends and laws. It is a dotted line relationship.

While demanding #humanitarian aid from across the #globe, the #Palestinian Authority spent $2.1 billion to fund #Islamic #terrorism between 2011 and 2018.

money that supposedly went to programs that haven’t existed for many years.

It's not even surprising that the @WashingtonPost provides space to terrorists any more.

Cemil Bayik, the #PKK leader, has an op-ed in today's paper calling for "peace" with #Turkey. It's a skilled piece of propaganda.… <thread below>
Bayik notes #PKK was "born in 1978 [and] launched a guerrilla war in 1984". In that gap, the PKK, which spent all its time in #Turkey fighting the Left and other Kurds, moved to Syria and Lebanon to be built into an army by the #Soviets, using #Asad and the #PLO as cut-outs.
#PKK leader Cemil Bayik in his WaPo op-ed skips over the return to violence by the #PKK in 2004 entirely, and then misrepresents how the second ceasefire broke down in 2015, blaming #Turkey. In fact, the PKK murdered several policemen, claiming it as "revenge" for an #IS attack.

Though #Pakistan was created on religious line, #Jinnah was most liberal Muslim who never wanted #Pakistan a religious firm!
Till 1977 , Religion was just a personal choice in #Pakistan , General #Zia not only pushed religion but also took country decades backward !
Zia knew he had zero support from People hence he decided to take support from Mullahs and he ensured that hardcore Islam penetrate each institution in #Pakistan including #Army & #ISI !
#Soviet invaded #Afghanistan in 1979, #Zia used this opportunity to the fullest .
#US wanted to work on Proxy war, Zia got excellent platform to build these Proxies in Madrassa's of Pakistan.

I’m an avid history geek 🤓 and I got this idea from @GippersChutzpah!
My follower count is currently stuck in the mid ages. I’ll tweet some Jewish history milestones from along the years, according to my follower count. So come on, I’m 4 followers short of the first story...
On 13/12/1204, Moshe Ben Maimon AKA #Maimonides (Greek) and Ha’Rambam (Hebrew), died at 69 in Egypt.
A Philosopher, Physician, Astronomer and one of most important #Jewish Scholars of all times.
Buried in Tiberias @Israel, upon final request to be buried in the ancient homeland
WOW! 3 followers away from yet another milestone of #JewishHistory!
So far we learned about some pogroms 😠(1171 France, 1190 England) and Maïmōnídēs dying 😢(1204 Egypt).
JewishHistory is filled with sorrow and darkness but it gets better in the 2nd half of the 20th century 😉

After suppressing an attempt by the #PLO to overthrow the monarchy in 1970-1, #Jordan disavowed all claims on the West Bank in 1988, seemingly ending hopes for what had long seemed the most viable solution: a federal state spanning the River Jordan.…
Jordan wasn't just renouncing territorial ambitions: it was putting up a firewall against what the East Bank elite, not unreasonably, regard as a dire internal threat, should a settlement on such terms come about. Hard to see why Amman would reverse now.
Unsurprisingly, #Jordan rejects any proposal of a confederation with the #PLO on the West Bank.…
