#1 engine had trouble on final & poor alignment with the runway forced a go-around. #2 engine was at full power and gear and flaps retracted, but it still lost height. As it turned to to avoid the river it landed in a field, sliding for 300m before colliding with a tree. 3/4

Stored outside, all that remains of a very rare French research aircraft of the late 1940s, rescued after being a target on a gunnery range. The third of only 4 built and the only survivor. 1/ #planespotting #avgeek #aviationdaily #aircraft #aviationlovers #aviation #milair
Sud-Ouest Espadon (Swordfish) first flew in 1948 & was intended to be fighter/interceptor but, as with so many 1st generation jets, it proved to be underpowered and failed to meet specs. The 4 prototypes then became test beds for various engine configurations. 2/
This one, SO.6025, fitted with a rocket engine below the fuselage, was the 1st European A/C to break the sound barrier in level flight, 15 Dec. ‘53. Along with jet fuel it had rocket fuel & nitric acid between the jet intake & rocket so it could be safely dumped if necessary. 3/4

The insight report on sustainable battery and hydrogen-powered flight we produced in collaboration with @wef outlines 8 unlocks that would enable novel technologies to accelerate #netzeroflight

🧵 Here is a summary of these unlocks:
1⃣ Aviation batteries must be charged with #lowcarbon electricity to ensure reduced emissions. To achieve this, airports could store #renewableenergy to avoid depending on the grid or batteries could be swapped in and out of aircraft to increase charging flexibility.
2⃣ While green hydrogen is a viable aviation fuel, care must be taken if blue hydrogen is to be used in aviation, as its production might result in significant #CO2 emissions and methane leaks that offset emissions savings made in-flight.

Further clashes are bound to unfold soon in #Tripolitania.

• some #local rivalries have become too tense.

#macro fault lines have shifted too far away from #Libya’s Jun 2020 equilibrium, which so many policymakers & watchers take for granted;

[ see 🧵 thread👇🏻]
One must, right off the bat, acknowledge the outsized importance of #Zawiyah actors in today’s NW Libya configuration.

The most zealous pro-Dabaiba fighters on 5/17 in #Tripoli were led by #Bahrun.

& the #Buzeriba forces (who didn’t fight on 5/17) are ferociously anti-Dabaiba.
Other #local antagonisms that became evident on 5/17 in Tripoli include Mustafa Qaddur’s animosity vs. his #Mukhabarat superior & Dabaiba ally Hussein al-#Ayeb.

What Ukraine needs asap to win the war: Military #Aircraft (Сombat Aircraft)

You might have seen that 🇺🇲 is already helping a lot. This is true. #Ukrainians are thankful a lot. But it’s not enough for #Ukraine to protect the whole world from a massive threat to humanity.
Fighters are needed to establish air superiority, protect critical infrastructure and ground troops, prevent hostile bombing attacks, intercept cruise missiles, counter enemy’s airborne operations and to escort friendly attack aircraft..
Ground attack aircraft and fighter-bombers are intended to engage enemy’s ground objects, concentrations of troops and vehicles and provide close air support to friendly ground units.

A dual departure by @VirginAtlantic & @British_Airways from the westerly runways at @HeathrowAirport this morning to mark the opening of the #USA to double vaccinated travellers. But why did one #aircraft go North (the long way) and the other go West? Thread… #Airport #WePilots
The simple answer is, that if both take off at the same time and go west towards @JFKairport, they will eventually get in each other’s way. So the aircraft (@VirginAtlantic) on 27L continued straight ahead on a CPT departure & the (@British_Airways) turned north on an UMLAT.
This also allows the #aircraft to both climb to the optimum cruising level and cross the #Atlantic Ocean almost side-by-side. The more northerly track will obviously add more miles and therefore time to the journey. Whilst it was never a race, the more direct routing always wins.

What is stealth technology? The first step of stealth technology is that it must conform to the principle of parallel design,In order to reflect electromagnetic waves in another direction,This is only the first step in stealth technology. #Aircraft #Fighter #F22 #F35 #J20 ImageImageImageImage
The second step of stealth design is to design the edge and transverse gap of the wing in zigzag shape, and use radar wave absorbing materials. This is to deal with the diffraction phenomenon of radar waves.Only su57 has no such design. ImageImageImageImage
The third step is to use the S-shaped curved inlet to shield the engine, because the exposed engine seriously damages the stealth capability.Only su57 has no such design, and its engine is obviously exposed. ImageImageImageImage

Recently, the @FinMinIndia notified that ‘aircraft leasing’ will be considered a financial product. This will be permitted at GIFT City—India’s International Financial Services Centre (IFSC). This may seem like a minor development, but is a big step. Here’s why - a thread <1/13>
@FinMinIndia The #aviation industry is going through a rough patch. @IATA expects air traffic will take years to recover to pre-pandemic levels. Over time, #zoom and #googlemeet can eat into the air #travel business market. <2/13>
@FinMinIndia @IATA The other reasons of #airtravel: leisure, #education, visiting friends & relatives could see a bounce-back. Recent trends show that the demand can quickly fill up when #lockdown opens. The 'winter schedule' will have more than half the pre-#pandemic capacity deployed <3/13>

It has been an unusual day today as I have reflected on 13 years of flying the #Boeing747 for #BritishAirways with a few people. I woudl ask for your indulgence as I take a short walk down memory lane from Boeing 747 No 1 to Air Force 1. #BA747 #BritishAirways747. >>>> Image

[THREAD] : While other kids in Lusoi Primary School in Nyeri played regular games, Samuel Mwaura Muthinji spent his time creating aircraft models from iron sheets. Muthinji was fascinated by how huge heavy metallic objects floated in the air and moved from one point to another. Capt. Samuel Muthinji sits in the Dash 8-Q400 cockpit.
His enchantment for flying came at a tender age and he then developed an utmost adoration for flying. After completing his primary school in Nyeri, Muthinji enrolled in Moi Forces Academy near the Moi Air Base in the Eastleigh suburb for his secondary education.
Everyday, when coming out of class heading to the dormitory, Muthinji observed the landing of the aircraft at the nearby Air Base. He made a vow to his peers that one day one time he will become a pilot.

The market value of @embraer has tumbled to a mere $1.1Bn . If the @PMOIndia works quickly to use the bonhomie between @narendramodi & @jairbolsonaro to acquire a 70% stake here now it could give #India a major leg into civilian airliner manufacturing fast…
The #Aircraft market could be down now but it will begin to pick up as herd immunity & vaccines kick in . Acquiring @Embraer could give #India a domestic manufacturer for the UDAN project . Also the KC390 would be a readymade MTA for the @IAF_MCC .
There are market predictions which indicate #India will need more than 1000 short range airliners to serve a growing Tier 2&3 city airports by 2035 . At an average price of $50Mn today that's nearly $50Bn if we import these jets.
Sir @narendramodi ,this is a golden opportunity.
