It has been an unusual day today as I have reflected on 13 years of flying the #Boeing747 for #BritishAirways with a few people. I woudl ask for your indulgence as I take a short walk down memory lane from Boeing 747 No 1 to Air Force 1. #BA747 #BritishAirways747. >>>> Image
It all started in 1969 when Joe Sutter an engineer working for #Boeing launched the first #Boeing747 from Boeing Field in #Seattle. The aircraft was the first widebody airliner & over 50 years later it is still be flying. Join me visiting No1 here 👉🏻 Image
This year has seen @BoeingAirplanes announce the end of the line for the #Boeing747 as they will stop manufacturing the freighter version soon. The venerable aircraft hasn’t changed much since 1969 but it will be around for many years to come. Read here 👇🏻 theavgeeks.com/2019/02/09/rep…

[THREAD] : While other kids in Lusoi Primary School in Nyeri played regular games, Samuel Mwaura Muthinji spent his time creating aircraft models from iron sheets. Muthinji was fascinated by how huge heavy metallic objects floated in the air and moved from one point to another. Capt. Samuel Muthinji sits in the Dash 8-Q400 cockpit.
His enchantment for flying came at a tender age and he then developed an utmost adoration for flying. After completing his primary school in Nyeri, Muthinji enrolled in Moi Forces Academy near the Moi Air Base in the Eastleigh suburb for his secondary education.
Everyday, when coming out of class heading to the dormitory, Muthinji observed the landing of the aircraft at the nearby Air Base. He made a vow to his peers that one day one time he will become a pilot.

The market value of @embraer has tumbled to a mere $1.1Bn . If the @PMOIndia works quickly to use the bonhomie between @narendramodi & @jairbolsonaro to acquire a 70% stake here now it could give #India a major leg into civilian airliner manufacturing fast google.com/amp/s/www.forb…
The #Aircraft market could be down now but it will begin to pick up as herd immunity & vaccines kick in . Acquiring @Embraer could give #India a domestic manufacturer for the UDAN project . Also the KC390 would be a readymade MTA for the @IAF_MCC .
There are market predictions which indicate #India will need more than 1000 short range airliners to serve a growing Tier 2&3 city airports by 2035 . At an average price of $50Mn today that's nearly $50Bn if we import these jets.
Sir @narendramodi ,this is a golden opportunity.

A thread to cover some of the major - and I mean seriously, shockingly major - gaps, mistakes and problems with the #environmental impact assessment for Montijo airport in #Portugal.

First up: no #fieldwork. AT ALL. 1/
That's right – the EIA of a major international #airport proposed for the country’s most important #wetland site for #bird #conservation didn’t bother to actually count any #birds.

Instead, they depended on studies already published for other reasons.

How did that work out? 2/
Well, the data on birds feeding in the #intertidal- the largest and most important #habitat in the #SPA- was collected in 2002-3.

In the 17 years since, the #Tagus has changed a lot for birds. Improved #water treatment but drastic increase in #shellfish harvesting. 3/

I have seen and commented about on a number of threads about this video and the low level manoeuvre of the 727. Whilst it is unusual, this airport also presents some risks which are unique. Let me explain here. #avgeek #B727 #aviation #africa
I first came to Mogadishu just before Xmas ‘92. It was dark and we landed at the airport the evening before the US Navy Seals were caught by CNN coming up the beach just to the north. It’s was then, and still is, a challenging place to aviate into.
Weapons are plentiful and when combined with the use of narcotics they are often fired randomly at anything, including aircraft. So it’s worth avoiding flying over any built up areas, period. This was the results of a food for weapons “swap meet”.A great way to mitigate threats

The @IAF_MCC will need to retire 11 MIG sqdns by 2030 or around 198 jets , another 200 jets retire ~2035. We need to replace 400jets to maintain current lvls by 2035. For 42 sqdns add 200 jets . @RahulGandhi pls can you tell us how you'll cover that with @HALHQBLR 1/n #Rafale
The NDA plan is to have @HALHQBLR build at least 250 #LCA variants in three lines ( two lines funded by #Modi ) with each line building 8jets/annum starting 2020.
Another 350 #aircraft will have to come from 1-2 other privately owned firms or be imported. 2/n
If we kill private #military #aircraft #manufacturing today we will have to import ~300 jets in the next 10-15 yrs which will cost #India anything between 45-60$bn . Each 1$bn invested creates at least 6000 jobs today , this import alone will cost us 360,000 jobs 3/n
