Thread: Dump bad equations. They lead to bad decisions.

On May 10, Mr. @BorisJohnson proposed a simple equation to determine #COVID Alert Level. He then explained how the reopening policy could be shaped based on this "Threat Level".

1/
In this thread, I will explain why this equation is not only wrong, but is also completely unnecessary — especially when we have clear alternative measures that can guide #COVID policies and decisions.

* Fast forward to tweet # 11 if you already know Dimensional Analysis.

2/
One of the first subjects in physics is "Dimensional Analysis". It needs to be emphasized more in high school and college physics courses.

See this @wikipedia article for a technical description:

THREAD. A week ago I wrote this on the contribution that #migrants and #refugees make to the response to #coronavirus. Since then I have been collecting information on HOW this happens in different countries to learn for the future.

1/3 of #Albertans feel they'd be better off as an independent country. Anyone reading this who is surprised, hasn't been paying attention. Of course I'm sad to see the number. I am a traditional coast to coast to coast Canadian.
I was 19 when I moved from my home in Quebec to Alberta. And one of the most attractive aspects of living in Alberta for me was the patriotism I felt everywhere around me for Canada. I never met a Mountie in Quebec. I never spent a moment in a National Park. I never saw the
Enthusiastic support for Canadian Forces in Quebec that I felt every day in so many ways in Calgary and Edmonton & every other city, town, village and farm, in Alberta. Those were snail mail days. And I would write my dad about how great it great it felt to be an Albertan.

Also going to thank @GeoscienceBC and @AME_BC for the funding for the heritage work this year! 1000+ likes on a geology tweet is something I never thought we'd get! Fossils rule am I right?!
